Amorgos: What to do when you get there?
Amorgos, the seventh biggest island in the Greek Cyclades is the perfect place for a variety of sports. The high mountains that reach a height of 822 meters, the short width island (from 1,5km to 6km) is the perfect place to discover scuba diving, hiking or other water sports.
In the eastern part of the Cyclades group, Amorgos has stayed untouched by time, and the inhabitants of the island they still keep the same traditions as their ancestors did centuries ago.
The "Profitis Ilias" mountain peak at 699 meters, is the most famous on the north side of the island. The scenery is unique and you can easily practice hiking either you are a beginner or an experienced hiker. On the top of the peak, you will be amazed by the big blue water that surrounds the island. At Amorgos, you can expect to find long sandy beaches. Most of the beaches are quiet and there's enough space to practice any kind of water sports. You can find isolated beaches in the uninhabited island of Nikouria, but you would need a boat to reach it.
To get to Amorgos you would need to reach one of the two ports of the island, either Katapola or Aegiali. You can find ferries, catamaran and hydrofoils call, connecting Amorgos with the other islands and the main land.
