Tromsø is a vibrant city in the north of Norway, serving as a gateway to the mystical Arctic. It is situated on the beautiful Tromsøya island, surrounded by dramatic fjords and mountains. On this reindeer feeding excursion from Tromsø, you will travel to an authentic Sami camp outside of the city.
The trip begins at the starting point in Tromsø city, where you'll be greeted by the experienced guide. You'll board a comfortable bus for your 25-minute transfer to the cosy reindeer camp. After interacting with the reindeer, you'll gather inside a traditional lavvu (Sami tent) for a delicious meal of 'bidos' (reindeer stew). As you warm up around the campfire with hot drinks and cookies, you'll learn more about the Sami people, the indigenous group of Scandinavia. They have a rich cultural heritage deeply connected to nature. Reindeer herding is a central practice and livelihood of the Sami people. After hearing stories about their traditions and rituals, you'll also get to watch a time-honoured joik performance! Joiking is a unique form of song, often likened to a musical meditation.
