Everything you need to know about mountainboarding!
The mountainboard? Another hybrid machine straight out of the tortured brain of a mad scientist who likes to experiment with the world of snowboarding? Well, when you think about it, not so much. Yes, because the bicycle has its own off-road vehicle (the mountain bike as its name indicates), so why not the skateboard? The idea is not so stupid after all. If you like nature and skateboarding, this invention is a no-brainer! Snowboarding that can be practised even in summer with this perfect mix of mountain bike and skateboard.
The mountainboard appeared in California (like most snow sports) in the early 1990s. A small group of snowboarders designed a new machine to ride down the slopes while waiting for the snow to fall. This original project then developed in England with the founders of the Nosno brand and then all over the world. Big wheels mounted on studded tyres attached to a 90 cm board and a new discipline was born.
Thrill-seekers and adrenaline junkies have been rushing to try out this new activity on snow-covered mountain slopes or in the forest. A very accessible sport because the mountainboard has the particularity of being very stable so it is easy to have balance and thus remain upright without being a daredevil or a gifted person.
With or without a brake, with or without feet attached and sometimes with an electric motor for extra speed, this activity has the advantage of being able to be practised anywhere. You just have to deflate the tyres a little to go slower and have more cushioning or to inflate them to the max and go down a tarmac road for example.
This "ecological" sport is not a new discipline of skateboarding(see article here) but rather a derivative of this urban practice mixed with inflatable wheels. With its own identity, emerging infrastructures, and a strong cohesion in the French and international associative scene, Mountainboard is now a sport in its own right.
This all-terrain skateboard can be ridden just about anywhere, grass, dirt, asphalt, hard sand and even in a skatepark because you can easily perform freestyle tricks with this machine. Here is the proof with a nice street mountainboard video with the pro rider Dylan Warrens.
