An island paradise or pearl of the Indian Ocean, Mauritius is full of real treasures to discover. In this article, find out about some of the island's most beautiful beaches and the outdoor activities you can enjoy there!
Hello everyone,
I'm Amélie, a travel blogger, and I launched my travel blog Bonjour Maurice to help you discover all the nooks and crannies of this little corner of paradise, as well as to share my tips and feedback. Discover with me today the most beautiful beaches in Mauritius.
Exceptional weather all year round, hundreds of kilometres of fine sandy beaches, turquoise lagoons and lush, dense vegetation... Mauritius is a real pearl nestling in the heart of the Indian Ocean, an essential holiday destination where you can escape the winter temperatures in the sun...
With some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Mauritius offers a heavenly holiday for travellers, combining idleness on its stretches of white sand, water sports to explore the seabed, whale watching, cultural discoveries and swimming with dolphins...
Belle Mare, Trou-aux-Biches, Ile aux Cerfs and Le Morne are some of the most beautiful beaches to be seen in Mauritius! To find out more about the prettiest beaches occupying the island's 330 km of white sand, this guide is for you!
Trou-aux-Biches, the island's most heavenly beach!
For many travellers, Trou-aux-Biches is the most beautiful beach in Mauritius! It stands out for its extremely fine white sand and exceptionally clear turquoise waters... It's the ideal spot to enjoy a pleasant swim because of the depth of the lagoon, and to explore the colourful coral and fish...
Trou-aux-Biches beach is located in the northern part of Mauritius, between the very pretty Mont Choisy beach and Pointe aux Piments. If you're looking for relaxation, farniente, swimming or underwater activities, I highly recommend this place to make the most of your stay in the sun!
Ile aux Cerfs, an idyllic setting for golf in Mauritius
A boat trip to Ile aux Cerfs is one of the most popular activities in Mauritius! This island, just a few kilometres from the shores of Trou d'Eau Douce, is an exceptional corner of paradise and home to one of the finest golf courses in Mauritius...
Of course, the beach at Ile aux Cerfs is well worth a visit! It stands out for its lush beauty, its tall filaos, its generous and colourful seabed and its crystal-clear waters... It's the ideal place to relax on the warm white sand, enjoy water sports or go snorkelling and diving! To get to the island, I recommend taking a catamaran trip from Trou d'eau Douce to Ile aux Cerfs.
Belle Mare, where to swim with children in Mauritius
Located on the east coast of Mauritius, Belle Mare beach stands out for its length... It is bordered by transparent waters in shades of blue-green and is perfect for families looking for a beach to swim on in Mauritius with children!
Belle Mare is clearly one of the best places to stay for a relaxing holiday. There are a number of upmarket establishments in the area, offering luxury services and facilities to help travellers relax... And of course, Belle Mare beach is perfect for water sports!
Le Morne, the wildest and most stunning beach!
Le Morne beach is clearly my favourite place! It's on the Le Morne peninsula, in the south-west of Mauritius, and has several small beaches with indescribable charm... With its tall palm trees, white sand and Morne Brabant as a backdrop, the scenery is sensational!
If you come to Mauritius for board sports such as surfing or kitesurfing, Le Morne is the most popular spot for adrenaline junkies. You could take kitesurfing lessons at Le Morne or admire the beach from the air on this seaplane flight over Mauritius. Many travellers enjoy this region, which is one of the most paradisiacal in the Indian Ocean... In fact, if you want a memorable experience, I recommend a sunset horseback ride along Le Morne beach!
Flic-en-Flac, the most popular beach in Mauritius
Bordered by tall filaos trees, the beach at Flic-en-Flac has become a popular spot for tourists wanting to enjoy a soothing lagoon... I urge you to visit this village and its streets, but also to take advantage of its warm waters to go scuba diving! Its depths are home to numerous caves and breathtaking spots such as the cavern of the Cathedral, a diving site located at a depth of 30 metres!
Pointe d'Esny, a pearl in the south of Mauritius!
Located in the south-east of Mauritius, close to Mahébourg, Pointe d'Esny is a small seaside resort whose main asset is its exceptional beach... For travellers looking for picturesque scenery, Pointe d'Esny beach offers a wild and calm atmosphere as it is seldom visited...
Although this locality was affected by an oil spill caused by the MV Wakashio running aground on the coral reef in August 2020, it is not lacking in charm and beauty. It remains one of the most beautiful public beaches in Mauritius, hidden behind sumptuous villas and just 15 minutes from the airport!
Pereybere beach, an authentic beach on a human scale!
Located just a few kilometres from Grand Baie, Pereybere beach, although very small, clearly stands out for its beauty. It's here that you can have a good time, sampling local specialities and enjoying the atmosphere of a small village... A must!
Elegant hotels, guest houses, beach restaurants - everything you need for a carefree stay... And there's no shortage of activities to choose from! Whether it's lazing around, swimming or snorkelling, this beach has plenty to offer!
Tamarin, the best spot for sunsets
On the west coast of Mauritius, not far from Flic en Flac, is the beautiful bay of Tamarin, which lies at the mouth of the eponymous river that divides the bay in two. This is not the most popular beach with tourists, as there are no turquoise waters or white sandy beaches here. Instead, the sand is grey and there are unpredictable sea currents and big waves that break on the shore.
While it's not the best place to swim in Mauritius, it is a very famous surf spot, although jealously guarded by the local surfers. But my favourite thing about Tamarin is its superb setting with the mountains in the background, the river and the beach. It's also the best place to sit and watch the sun set over the sea. If you go to this beach, you can kayak from Tamarin Bay to explore the river and maybe even see some dolphins- it's an experience I'd recommend!
Ile aux Bénitiers, the most spectacular island in Mauritius!
Ile aux Bénitiers is a small islet off the south-west coast of Mauritius. This is where you can swim with dolphins and enjoy the superb snorkelling spots around Crystal Rock!
Although small, just 2 kilometres long and 500 metres wide, Ile aux Bénitiers boasts a stretch of pristine white sand and exceptional turquoise waters! Spend a day in this paradise and enjoy a picnic, birdwatching or even snorkelling...
If you want to see dolphins in Mauritius, I highly recommend booking a boat trip to Les Bénitiers! During the crossing, you can admire these marine mammals and even share a moment with them in the waters of the Indian Ocean... Of course, make sure you go with an ethical operator!
