A bungee jump from 182m high, in the Gorges du Verdon!

Icarus burned his wings, but thanks to bungee jumping, you can fly without risk... provided you have a good heart! If you don't know what bungee jumping is (do you live on Mars?), we can't advise you enough to read our article " the best spots to try bungee jumping".
The principle of this activity is to throw yourself into the void several tens of metres from the ground, with your ankles attached to a bungee rope, and to get a maximum of strong sensations without too much effort... provided you have enough courage! And since at Manawa we don't do things by halves, we chose to have our editor Nicolas test the bungee... from the Artuby Bridge, at 182m of altitude!

A short presentation of Nicolas: 35 years old, 1m70, not the most athletic of the group (despite a first half-marathon completed on May 26th, in 2h27, an honourable result!) and a bit anxious around the edges (and even in the middle). In short, an average guy, with the ideal profile for a bungee jump test! What's more, in the French Mecca of bungee jumping, the Gorges du Verdon...

Realise how lucky you areHow lucky you are? Well yes, ladies and gentlemen, bungee jumping from the highest bridge in Europe dedicated to the practice, at 182 m high, is a privilege, a unique opportunity to have a lot of fun. After all, why jump from 30m if you can have longer sensations? Nicolas did not hesitate, if it is going to be as long as possible to get into the air and freak out...

" I immediately thought of the Artuby Bridge because jumping from 182m high doesn't happen ten times in a lifetime. In my eyes, it was the ideal place for this first jump, so I might as well do it right!

Making the most of the wait

If you can't stand waiting, if you like to be served after 2 minutes, bungee jumping is not necessarily the ideal activity. Once arrived on the spot, in this magnificent setting of the Gorges du Verdon, Nicolas had to wait six hours before being able to jump. The fact that I had to wait a long time for my turn was beneficial. I was able to watch the other people jumping and realise that everything was going well for them! No one refused the jump. It clearly de-stressed me, when it was my turn I was even rather relaxed and impatient to experience this huge emotion myself ..." A piece of advice: use the wait to do something that relaxes you, either by watching the others, or by occupying yourself in another way... It doesn't matter, everyone has their own way of functioning, the main thing is to know how to manage the low moments as well as possible and not to let stress get the better of you. Remember, the aim is to have FUN, so take a deep breath!

This is it, it's yours!

Once the briefing is over and the equipment installed (don't worry, if you wear glasses like Nicolas, the Latitude Challenge team will give you the necessary protection, with a great style!), it's the long awaited moment... With the help of a stepladder, you climb on the bridge parapet, you breathe in and out, you stretch out your arms, proud and upright, you look into the distance, and there is nothing left to do but to follow the countdown 3-2-1, banzaiiiiiii! Put your brain down, and all you have to do is jump energetically into the void.

An unforgettable experience for Nicolas: " As soon as I took off, I had the impression for a second that I was floating in the air. Then I plunged into the void. At that moment, I couldn't hold back a huge scream, which was more an expression of immense happiness than of terror. The sensations are incredible, indescribable, you really have to test this to understand. There is then a "rebound", we go back up before going down again and we still get the full sensation. Jumper du Pont de l'Artuby, it's really the best!

Afteryour jump, you thought you were going to be airlifted to the top of the bridge like James Bond? Well, things don't quite work out that way... Be prepared for a thirty-minute walk, in small groups. Once you've reached your destination, you'll receive a diploma, a USB key of your jump (on request, with an extra charge, but which is clearly recommended) and, above all, a lot of memories...

So what are you waiting for to experience your first bungee jump?
