Practical information

A 2 to 3-hour excursion (variable according to weather conditions, etc.). to go cage diving with the sharks on Dyer Island from Kleinbaai: you will be able to spot the copperhead shark (Bronze Whaler), the broadnose sevengill shark and, if you are lucky, the famous great white shark!

Course of events

- Welcome at the Great White House restaurant, where you will be served a continental breakfast or hot lunch when you check in

- Briefing on the activity and safety instructions

- Preparation of your equipment for the activity: you will each receive a bag containing a wetsuit, booties, a life jacket and a weather-proof jacket

- Boarding the boat

- Sailing to Dyer Island (approx. 20 minutes), during which you can observe other marine species (whales, dolphins, African penguins, etc.)

- Setting up your diving equipment

- Once the sharks are coming, you will be launched safely into the water with the help of the instructors in the cage installed on the side of the boat

- Underwater shark-watching session using your diving mask (time in the cage varies according to the number of participants, the time the sharks are present, etc.)

- While the other participants are in the cage, you will be able to observe the sharks from the boat, alongside a marine biologist to tell you all about these incredible animals

- Sailing back to Kleinbaai (approx. 20 minutes)

- Disembarkation, return of equipment and debriefing of the activity over a snack to end the activity

Activity requirements

Maximum weight: 330 lbs/150 kg

You don't need to be able to swim to take part in this activity.

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Special terms

This activity is open to wheelchair users: please contact the Marine Dynamics team once your booking has been confirmed so that they can make the necessary arrangements to welcome you.

Diving masks can be used over glasses, but it is recommended that you wear contact lenses if possible, or bring your own diving mask adapted to your eyesight.

Since wildlife is unpredictable, their presence is never guaranteed.

Time slots are given as an indication only: please allow a full day for the activity, as times can only be confirmed the day before and are not negotiable. You will be informed of the meeting time the day before.

Video is available at an additional fee of R200, to be paid onsite.

If required, the team can organise a transfer from Cape Town (R900 per person) or from Hermanus (R600 per person): please contact the Marine Dynamics team directly once your booking has been confirmed to arrange the transfer.
