If you are fascinated by the great white sharks, you can go diving in a protected cage to take a closer look at them in an eco friendly way in Mossel Bay.
There's nothing more fascinating than diving with the great white sharks around Mossel Bay. Protected by the cage you will have the chance to take a closer look on the graceful beauty of the white sharks. The mysteries surrounding this spectacular shark beckon us to come closer and admire their powerful, predatory behaviour. If you are a shark lover, this activity will leave you awed!
A typical day of shark cage diving
You will meet with your instructors at the commercial slip next door to the yacht club. It's better to be there an hour before launch time so you can relax, have some breakfast, chat with the staff and listen to the safety and boat trip briefing.
The trip from the dock to the shark site is only about ten minutes so there isn't a long and tedious boat ride. In fact, Mossel Bay has the most accessible white sharks in the world. The bay is also very protected so the sea conditions are normally very calm and comfortable. The crew will provide a briefing concerning the cage diving on the boat.
To find the sharks the crew have to bait and chum. The baits and chum are natural marine products! It is strictly avoided to use anything that is not natural to the sharks and the environment. It can take several minutes or several hours for the first shark to appear.
Once the sharks approach the boat, the cage will go into the water and the diving will begin. Topside viewing is exciting for non-divers as the shark rises very close to the surface you will have plenty of opportunities to take some action shots and share them with your friends! Selfies with sharks get loads of likes!
Attention: Shark cage diving is not a jaws movie set, so the crew makes sure not to have the sharks banging into the boat and cage as this injures them and produces a false impression. All the boat trips are done with special attention to the sharks!
A trip generally lasts for more or less four hours. There are plenty of opportunities to chat with the staff and ask questions. Upon return to the dock, you will also get the certificate of attendance as a souvenir!
Who is it for?
Literally anyone! All you need to know is how to swim! If you know how to swim, then the crew will brief you on how to use the diving equipment and enjoy the sightings underwater!
A mouthful of adrenaline for the adventure seekers!
You are encouraged to bring your own GoPro or underwater camera.
Otherwise, you can buy a DVD of your experience for 350Rand after you have finished your trip.
Please take into account that depending on the conditions Mother Nature provides, shark sightings are not guaranteed, but White Shark Africa will do all in their power to give you the best chances.
