Calhau Surf School offers you a wonderful surfing camp on the beautiful beaches of Porto da Cruz, on Madeira Island. You'll be able to choose from a 3, 5 or 7-day surfing camp on your own or with one other person, that will include a stay in a 2-star hotel that is about 50 meters away from the beach, breakfast every morning, and 2, 3, or 5 surfing lessons lasting 3 hours each.

This camp is perfect for people who have never surfed before or need to refresh their surfing techniques, and perhaps learn some new ones. During your stay, the instructors will teach you about the fundamentals of surfing and provide you with the foundations to become a competent and confident surfer.

Alagoa is in center of Porto da Cruz, here you'll experience a small bay reef break and sand that has quite consistent surf. The best wind direction is from the southwest. Ideal swell direction is from the northwest and north. A left-hand reef and a good right-hand near the rock when the swell is from northeast. Best around mid-tide when the tide is rising.

Machico, in Madeira, is a quite exposed beach break that has unreliable waves. Autumn and winter are the best times of year to catch the waves there. The best wind direction is from the northwest. Windswells are much more typical than groundswells and the best wave direction is from the southeast. The beach break offers both left and right-hand waves. Best around mid-tide when the tide is rising. Unlikely to be too crowded, even when the surf is up. Take care to avoid the rocks.
