The canyoning adventure at Vatnajökull begins at the base camp near Höfn, a small fishing town located on a narrow peninsula in the Hornafjörður fjord. Upon arrival, you'll meet your certified instructor and prepare for the excursion. No previous canyoning experience is required, the experienced guide will provide a safety briefing and thorough instructions throughout the excursion. You'll get set up with the equipment (helmet, harness, wet suit, neoprene boots and gloves, and personal safety lanyards). Then, the canyoning under Vatnajökull Glacier begins!
You'll start with a short hike to the canyoning spot through the trees planted by locals of the Forestry Association of Austur-Skaftafellinga. Throughout your canyoning excursion at Vatnajökull, you'll traverse the incredible landscapes beneath the ice cap, including jumping into blue pools, sliding over rocks, and abseiling across majestic waterfalls. The instructor will guide you to ensure your safety during your thrilling and enjoyable experience! After the canyoning trip, you'll return to the base camp and warm up with some hot chocolate, tea or coffee.

Canyoning experience is not necessary, however, you should be able to hike with ease up to 5 km (3 mi) on uneven ground and rolling hill terrain.
Basic swimming skills are also required for this activity.
Pregnant people and those with back or heart problems are not advised to participate in this activity.
