Kalamata is the capital and largest city of the Messinia region and is situated along the coast of the Messenian Gulf in Greece. The dive centre is in Marathopolis, a charming coastal village located in the southwestern part of the Peloponnese peninsula. It is situated in the region of Messinia, overlooking the Ionian Sea. Marathopolis is a hidden gem in the Peloponnese, home to many historical sites, beautiful beaches and delicious Greek cuisine.

For your guided snorkelling adventure, you’ll meet the certified instructor at the dive centre in Marathopolis. Snorkelling is the perfect way to explore the underwater world if you are not comfortable with scuba diving. The instructor will provide the snorkelling equipment (mask, fins and snorkel) and go through a safety briefing and instructions. Then, the underwater adventure begins!

You’ll snorkel in the centre’s home reef, known as Skalakia by the locals, one of the best dive sites in the region of Messinia. The reef offers amazing visibility of up to 30 metres, with shallow waters perfect for beginners and snorkelling! Many Mediterranean sea creatures live in this area, including octopuses, Morey eels, nudibranchs, lionfish, cuttlefish, damselfish, sea breams, gobies, bennies, crabs, lobsters and spirographs. They swim in the rocky reefs, creating a big aquarium atmosphere! It is also the second-largest nesting area for endangered Caretta Caretta sea turtles, which you may spot while snorkelling. After exploring beneath the surface for approximately one hour, you’ll return to the dive centre.
