If you are aged 14 or over, know how to swim and are looking for a thrill near Avallon in Burgundy, hydrospeed on the Chalaux River is the adventure for you. Equipped with a neoprene wetsuit, life jacket, helmet and flippers, you will take to the water with a float to descend the river and its class 3 to 4 rapids for a wild adventure! A total of 1 hour 15 minutes of descent over around 5 km between the Chaumeçon dam and Chalaux awaits you, plenty of time to enjoy the heart of the Morvan Regional Nature Park.

This hydrospeed descent of the Chalaux River in the Morvan will take place alongside a state-qualified instructor who will advise you and ensure your safety throughout the activity. The flippers at your feet will help you propel and steer yourself, while your wetsuit will keep your body warm as you swim in the cool river water of between 10 and 12°C. There will be nothing to stop you from successfully navigating the rapids and technical sections along the way!

Departing from Saint-Martin-du-Puy, just a 35-minute drive from Avallon, you will enjoy an unforgettable white-water experience on the Chalaux River thanks to this hydrospeed descent in the Morvan!

Practical information

Hydrospeed descent down the Chalaux River for 1 hour and 15 minutes, on the 5 km navigable route from the Chaumeçon dam to the village of Chalaux, with several class 3 and 4 rapids and 2 waterfalls to pass.

Course of events

- Welcome to the AN Rafting base at Saint-Martin-du-Puy 15 minutes before the start of the activity

- Fitting of hydrospeed equipment in the base's closed changing rooms

- Briefing on the activity and safety instructions

- Launching in the river, just in front of the base

- Departure for a 1 hour and 15-minute hydrospeed trip down the Chalaux River, including various rapids and technical sections

- Return to the base by shuttle bus once you have reached the end of the course at Chalaux (10 to 15-minute drive)

- Change in the changing rooms at the base, where hot showers are available

- End of the activity with the opportunity to enjoy the picnic area at the base

Activity requirements

Maximum weight: 242 lbs / 110 kg

All participants must know how to swim to take part in this activity.

Written parental authorisation is required for minors to participate in this activity.

Please arrive 15 minutes before the departure time.

Special terms

This activity is not recommended for pregnant people, people with back problems or other serious medical conditions (ask your doctor for advice).

A minimum of 4 participants is required for the activity to take place: if this number is not reached, the instructors will propose rafting as a replacement.

Depending on the weather conditions and the opening of the dams, AN Rafting Morvan may take you to discover rafting on the Cure, another superb river in the Morvan Regional Nature Park.

If you wish, you can obtain photos and videos of your activity on an SD card for an additional €35.

Superbe descente sur le Chalaux. La rivière alterne des sections vraiment sportives et sympas, avec d'autres plus calmes et plus contemplatives. Avec une eau à 9° (juin), nous pensions avoir froid, mais en fait au bout de quelques minutes nous n'avons plus eu froid du tout. La rivière propose quelques jolis sauts où on s'éclate vraiment, ainsi que deux sections bien soutenues sur 4-5 minutes à chaque fois, où on enchaîne les rapides classe III. Vraiment, un gros régal, imbattable à 2.5h de Paris.
