Bastille Via Ferrata in Grenoble

Opened in October 1999, the via ferrata de la Bastille is located in Grenoble city centre. You climb Grenoble's historic fortress, set on the western cliffs of the mountain overlooking the Jardin des Dauphins.

From the Bastille cliffs, this is France's only urban via ferrata. It's one of the busiest, and an original way to discover the city. When the weather is fine, around a hundred ‘ferratists’ climb the Bastille. Made up of 2 parts, the route can be adapted to suit the level of participants.

For 3 hours, you will be accompanied by a state-certified guide who will give you technical advice and ensure your safety. There is no need to walk to the start of the Via Ferrata des Prises de la Bastille, which is located near a car park. The first part is the easiest and most varied. It involves climbing a vertical pillar some 27 metres high, followed by a crossing of a rocky cirque with beams, monkey bridges and a large Nepalese bridge.

The second part is less popular but just as interesting! After a shared start, you can choose between a physical or easy version. The higher you climb the Grenoble via ferrata, the more you'll enjoy a breathtaking view of Grenoble and the Chartreuse massif!
